The world was in the middle of a full blown bloody war. Billions of people have died at the hands of guns and bombs. Desperate to win the war they were losing, the U.S made a biological weapon of war, a virus. It worked splendidly, except that they couldn't control it. It spread past enemy borders and into home territory. It killed all humans infected, but had even worse effects on canines. It turned them into mindless beasts. The infected turned on their masters, killing all who were not infected. Canines rule the streets, and only the strong survive.
